Classic Horror Movies

A garlic a day keeps the vampires at bay. Do people use that saying? Maybe. I’d definitely eat one every day to eliminate the paranoia of having a vampire follow me home at night. Creepy. Although horror movies make us delusional or have us sprinting towards the bedroom after switching off the lights at night, sometimes we crave a little bit of thrill to escape reality. Giggling when someone at the theatre screams way too loudly. One thing really missing during this pandemic. But the fun of watching horror movies at home is far more enjoyable when it’s with family and friends.

Apart from those gruesome monsters in today’s modern horror movies. We all crave some old horror movies once in a while. Right from classic to modern-day horror, movies have evolved tremendously. Classic horror films may include incidents of evil characters or stories of terrifying monsters or malevolent animals, mystery thrillers that use atmosphere to build suspense. There is intense fear or dread while watching classic horror movies, due to their authenticity. Classic scary movies have gradually branched out into various sub-genres over the years, creating a vast assortment of different types of movies in horror.

3 Basic Classic Horror Movie Subgenres

  1. Supernatural Horror:

In supernatural horror movies, we come across supernatural monsters such as vampires, werewolves, demons, ghosts and zombies. These are creatures of legend in many classic horror films and come from thousands of years of human psychic response to the mysteries of the earth.

  1. Scientific Horror:

The scientific horror film is the type where we find the mad scientist creating something outside of nature. Something that will be lost from human control and run before being overpowered, usually by the military and the world is restored to peace and harmony. The monsters featured here are often new creations, things we’ve never imagined, never mind seen. They are not made or found by Man but exist outside of human awareness until they feel it necessary to appear and endanger the human species.

  1. Naturalistic Horror:

The third batch of horrors is the naturalistic monsters that our daily news is often reporting. Many classic horror movies incorporate serial killers and the psycho murderers, the madmen and the crazies. Creatures in naturalistic horror movies are created for the screen from the very real-life atrocities that scream from the headlines. Are perhaps covered up by the media for fear of copycat crimes. Other times the monster is an animal, such as a humongous bear or reptile, or even a group of beasts. If you want to spice up your binge, old school horror movies are the way to go!
