What is a DLI?

A designated learning institution is a college or university that has been granted permission by a provincial or territorial government to accept foreign students.

Students pursuing undergraduate or master’s degrees must obtain a Study Permit. Candidates must obtain an approval letter from a recognised learning organisation in order to obtain a Study Permit.

A DLI number is assigned to Designated Learning Institutions (DLIs) in Canada. In order to receive a Research Permit, candidates submitting under the Student Direct Stream (SDS) programme must first obtain an approval letter from a designated learning institute.

Students coming to Canada must demonstrate their fitness for health insurance benefits. They must receive private insurance (including Covid-19 coverage) before arrival in Canada if they are not insured.
Anyone who violates quarantine laws faces a fee of up to CAD 750,000 or a six-month prison term.
