Why are most presentations so boring and ineffective? If we’re honest I think we all give presentations in our day to day lives. At school, at work, even in interviews we all present with or without slides. It is how well we present that will make a huge difference to how well we succeed. Preparing and delivering a powerful presentation is not an easy task but it is also not an impossible one. Every presentation should be made to measure for a specific audience in a specific context. So I would like to share with you the basic three magic ingredients along with tips for a powerful and effective presentation-
The Audience
Keep in mind, the audience listens. When you speak or present, you want the listeners to understand and respond favourably to what you are saying.
The Speaker
Giving it a personal touch makes a huge difference. Becoming a Confident, Compelling Speaker. Try to get invested in the topic and focus on the transformation you want it to have on your audience.
Transformation
A good presentation is not about information, it’s about transformation.
I’m sure everyone wants to master the art of presenting. Before coming up with any presentation, ask yourself 3 very simple yet powerful questions that will make a difference-
- What does my audience know about the subject?
- What do they believe?
- What do they feel?
- What do they do to change?
So once you’ve worked out where they are before you can then take them to where they want to go afterwards. When you follow this process, you realise very quickly that the real transformation is not in what know. It is in what they believe, feel and do. That is what makes a difference.

You start to feel that you have failed to engage your audience, you wonder if you are a boring presenter. Perhaps you may be stuffing too much information in your slides. Use these 5 presentation tips the next time you are presenting in class.
Tip #1: Comb through your information and identify the core points
Draw attention to these key points in your presentation slides. You can still provide supporting information verbally during your presentation.

Tip #2: Establish a clear hierarchy in your presentation slides
Make your most important points big and bold. While making supporting information small. Make-every-slide-matter! It is also important to use subtle backgrounds and not visually complex backgrounds. The simpler, the better.
Tip #3: Readability is very important
Do not forget to consider readability. Speaking of readability, the next tip is to be consistent with your fonts and colours. Do not be afraid of white space either. White space can emphasize importance by drawing the eyes to the next slide or your presentation’s next slide.
Tip #4: Do not use a lot of texts and use white space
Try not to use more than six lines of text per slide. Try not to use more than 6 words per line. More white space between lines will make them easier to read. Also, one tip to keep in mind is not to overload the viewer with a lot of shapes, animations, and objects.
Tip #5: Use templates
Templates often take a bad rap because they are often thought of as limiting or sapping you of creative freedom. However, templates shouldn’t be perceived this way. Think of templates as a framework or maybe building blocks for you to tinker with to create your presentation. You will likely waste a lot of time and resources when you start making your presentation templates from scratch. Infographic templates are great examples of time-saving tips templates that you can use instead for an effective presentation.
