The alleys of Tourny were laid out between 1743 and 1757 by the intendant Tourny, on the route of the old Lébade which since antiquity served the Médoc.When the city acquired a second fortified wall, they linked (under the name of rua de Burga) the old Medoque gate which opened on Sainte-Catherine street to the new Saint-Germain gate (1302) , the current Place Tourny.This axis links the Place de la Comédie, on which the Grand Théâtre and the Grand Hôtel are located, to the Place Tourny in the extension of the rue Fondaudège towards the Médoc.
