With the new year swiftly coming, we all take some time to think about what we can do better, improve on, or start doing more or less as a student. Because of your busy, irregular schedules, it might be difficult to create and truly keep to New Year goals for students. That being said, I’m not here to bore you with generic New Year resolutions for students like “be healthier,” “sleep more,” or “work more,” but rather to give more specific resolutions that you can easily implement into your busy schedules and really stay with. So, listen up, everyone, because here is a compilation of fantastic New Year Resolution ideas for students that we can actually keep.

1) Do one nice thing for someone else every day.
One of the best New Year resolutions for students is to make it a daily mission to bring a smile to the face of a stranger. Whether you open the door for the little woman trailing behind you or pick up something that someone whose hands are full drops…
these small acts of kindness are enough to improve someone else’s day, no matter how insignificant they may appear to you. And if you look around, you’ll notice that these possibilities are all around you.
2) Limit your coffee consumption to one cup each day (or one a week.)
Reduce your daily coffee consumption, no matter what it is. It’s not the worst thing for you, but it’s also not the best thing for you, especially if you’ve gotten dependent on it. If you normally drink three cups of coffee per day, reduce to one; if you drink it a couple times per week, reduce to one, perhaps on Monday morning to kick off the week or on hump day to keep you going.
3) Incorporate some “Me-Time” into your hectic schedule on a regular basis.
Set aside 10-30 minutes every day for yourself to accomplish anything you want. Whether it’s taking a bath…”Me-time” is essential for your mental health and stability, whether it be spent meditating, stretching, or simply resting in bed. 4) Every night, get a certain amount of hours of sleep.
You’re probably slowly but steadily realising how critical sleep is. And one thing is certain: it gets increasingly vital as you get older.
Perhaps you are now falling asleep at different times each night and waking up most mornings feeling foggy. Allowing oneself a specific number of hours of sleep every night is one guaranteed method to wake up ready to face the day. That means no phone, tablet, or computer 30 minutes before going to bed. A decent range is 7-8 hours.
5) Incorporate additional physical exercise into your weekly routine.
Taking the stairs instead of the elevator is an easy approach to achieve this aim. Even better if you don’t have a car. You can walk to areas where you would ordinarily take an Uber. Every day, take a stroll around your student accommodation to obtain some fresh air. At least once or twice a week, go to the gym. The possibilities are limitless here, and the only thing standing in your way is you.
6) Set aside a set amount of money each week to save.
Of course, as a college student, spending money is nearly difficult. This is one of the New Year resolutions for students that is very effective and will help you as a student. This is not to urge you to cut back on your expenditures. Instead, set aside a fixed amount of money at the start of each week and don’t touch it. Something as small as $5 per week might quickly pile up and help you save money.
7) Set a monthly goal of reading a new book.
To have some fun. I’m not talking about dreadful textbooks or pointless novels assigned in English class. I’m referring to a book that piques your curiosity. Perhaps a fantasy or science fiction novel, a mystery novel, or a self-help book. It doesn’t seem like a job to read something you like (and it really improves your language, diction, and IQ in the long run!)
8) Alter your eating habits to include at least one salad every day.
Make tiny objectives for yourself with this New Year resolutions for students. Every day, have a salad for lunch or supper. Consume at least two servings of whole fruits or vegetables every day. Every day, try to eat something green. You get the idea.
9) Participate in more networking events.
You know those campus activities you constantly hear about and dismiss as a waste of time (well, maybe some are)…but pay more attention to the bulletin boards around you! Most of the time, you have no idea about fantastic networking and cultural events that are happening around you. And, certainly, they are worthwhile in the long term.
10) Limit your “going out” nights to one or two per week.
The wonderful thing about college is that there is always something going on. But it doesn’t mean you have to be involved all of the time. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that fear of missing out that is fleeting, and feeling healthier (which means drinking and partying less and sleeping more) at the end of the day feels so much better. I’m not saying “don’t go out,” but you don’t have to go on a Thursday-Sunday binge every weekend.
11) Limit your time spent on social media.
Social networking is an unavoidable reality. Just don’t make it the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning or the final thing you look at before going to bed. Don’t look at your Instagram feed when you’re out and about. Take in more of the sights, sounds, and people around you. It may sound silly, but it is far healthier for the soul.
12) Extend your time outside.
If the weather is beautiful, go outside and do your homework. Something about being out in nature is so invigorating and peaceful, and most of us don’t get enough of it.
