The University of Central Lancashire (often known as UCLan) is a public university in Preston, Lancashire, England. Its origins can be traced back to 1828 with the establishment of the Institution For The Diffusion Of Useful Knowledge. The Privy Council gave ‘university status’ to Harris Art College, Preston Polytechnic, and Lancashire Polytechnic in 1992, after which it was known as Harris Art College, Preston Polytechnic, and Lancashire Polytechnic.

The university has students and researchers from over 100 countries and partnerships with over 125 international institutions. Within the School of Language and Global Studies, staff speak 30 languages and represent 22 nationalities.
